J S Aldridge

J.S. Aldridge is the author of the Draic series, contemporary British urban fantasy novels where ancient Welsh mythology collides with the modern world. Set against recognisable streets, offices and landscapes, his stories ask what would happen if magic never disappeared—it simply learned to hide.

The initials are deliberate. The surname is a story for another day.

After a long career in financial services, he finally stopped saying, "One day I'll write a novel," and discovered that writing one was considerably easier than persuading anyone to read it. Fortunately, he enjoyed the process enough to keep going.

His novels favour grounded characters over chosen ones, quiet moments over spectacle, and the idea that the impossible might be hiding in plain sight. The dragons may be ancient, but the people dealing with them are reassuringly ordinary.

When he isn't writing, he's usually reading, experimenting with AI filmmaking, or trying to convince people that Welsh mythology deserves to stand alongside the better-known Arthurian legends.

He lives in Essex with his wife and is currently working on the next novel in the Draic series.
