I grew up being not just the new kid at school, I was usually also a freak with a strange haircut, odd clothing, and a foreign accent – either American or Scottish – and no idea how to fit in. By the age of 12, I had started at new schools in three countries, with different systems and curriculums, and zero friends. So today I write stories to let kids of all ages know that even though we might not fit in and might get picked on, there are others who understand our invisible battles.
