Chang C. Chen Ph.D

Half a century ago, I embarked on a journey from Taiwan that would shape my life profoundly. Armed with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Rutgers University and a JD from Columbia University, I dedicated over three decades to practicing law. This extensive experience has heightened my sensitivity to discrimination, prompting me to stand vigilant whenever its presence is felt or heard.

In my pursuit, I serendipitously uncovered instances of discrimination against Chinese American women. Fueled by an unyielding passion, I began chronicling their stories and delving into the intricate legal history that surrounds them. What started as a fervent endeavor transformed into a mission when I was encouraged to curate an exhibition on this subject. This humble initiative rapidly snowballed into 40 exhibitions, reaching its zenith with a prominent showcase at the Federal District Courthouse in Las Vegas in September 2023.

My commitment extends beyond physical exhibitions, encompassing the written word. With over 100 books to my name, the ones closest to my heart are "Herstory" and "Herstory 2"—vivid narratives chronicling the legal history of Chinese American women. These volumes encapsulate not just stories but the resilience, struggles, and triumphs of a community that deserves to be heard.

This journey has been more than a personal odyssey; it's a testament to the indomitable spirit of Chinese American women. Each word penned, every exhibition curated, is an impassioned plea for justice, recognition, and a future free from discrimination.
