Elisangela Bearigo

Elisāngela Bearigo is a Brazilian-born writer and storyteller whose work is shaped by lived experience, movement, and transformation. Writing for over two decades, she draws on a life lived across borders, cultures, and identities, having made her home in Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Switzerland, and England. Fluent in six languages, she brings a rich multicultural perspective and deep emotional sensitivity to everything she writes.

Her historical epic, Aruanda's Children, is the book of her heart. Rooted in her own ancestry, it tells the story of the Africans stolen to Brazil: who they were before the ships, what they endured, and how they resisted, from the free kingdom of Palmares to the fight that ended slavery. It refuses to reduce its people to their suffering. Instead, it honours their greatness, their faith, and their joy, and follows them home to Aruanda, the homeland of the dead. The novel is accompanied by a 16-track companion album, sung in several languages and tuned to 432 Hz.

Her other work spans a remarkable range. Her memoir, I Am Angelina, the result of more than twenty years of reflection, is an honest exploration of identity, survival, and reclaiming one's own story. A former rodeo queen herself, she co-wrote The Unstoppables, a romance set in the thrilling, glamorous world of Brazilian rodeo, written from the inside. She also co-wrote The Balkan Prince, a dark gothic vampire novel set on the Albanian coast, born of her love for the Balkans and its people. And for younger readers, Symba the Little Coyote: First Light tells the heartwarming story of a rescue dog finding his way.

A mother of three, Elisāngela writes from the realities of family life, love, sacrifice, and growth. Whether telling her own story, her ancestors', or one steeped in legend, her work carries the same conviction: that the forgotten deserve to be remembered, and that transformation is always possible.
