Richard van der Ven is the author of The Lordship Series and has a background in medieval literature, with a master from the Dutch University of Leiden. In this beautiful Renaissance town he started writing his first novel, the Frisian, as a student.
When he was young he already travelled with his family around Europe but especially to their second house in France and he loved visiting all the ancient chateaux that enriched the countryside of the Périgord. He has always loved the history surrounding him in Holland and started delving into it professionally when he did his literary studies.
At present he lives in The Hague where he teaches English language and literature to senior high school students.
Richard van der Ven loves to visit medieval sites to this day and travels to them each year to try and live what his main character Reginhard must have felt, heard and seen a millenium ago, as can be seen on his website where he includes his research trips and shows you what is worth visiting when you’re interested in history.
A fascination for different cultures made Richard live abroad in China and he loves to include multiculturalism and immigration in his books, surprising readers with the richness and diversity of the medieval world. His unique style and view makes him stand out and add a layer of reality to the rough lives of his characters. He welcomes you to read his stories.
