Matt was born in 1994 into an Aston Villa family when ‘Big Ron’ Atkinson was in charge and Dean was banging the goals in. Unfortunately goals were never scored in the necessary abundance, so Matt has very little to reminisce about when it comes to titles and trophies! But that hasn’t stopped him collecting programmes for games played more than 30 years before his birth.
Matt set up the Instagram account @1_shilling in 2018 to share the story of forgotten football programme designs with the world. Features by The Guardian, Creative Review, It's Nice That, Mundial and Huck Magazine (to name but a few) have helped 1 Shilling gain a cult following. 1 Shilling has also spoken on talkSPORT and at a handful of festivals, solidifying their voice in the ongoing conversation about the future of the humble programme.
In real life Matt is a Co-Founder and Creative Director of Monday Nights design practice, a cross-discipline design studio who
specialise in brand identity and typography across multiple sectors, including sports, entertainment, gaming and print.
