John Dowling

John Dowling is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a 25-year veteran of the heavy equipment industry, with a career that spans the full spectrum of product support — from turning wrenches as a construction equipment mechanic to leading dealership operations as Director of Product Support. His experience includes roles as a field service mechanic, service manager, branch manager, and factory service representative for a major agricultural OEM.

Today, John is the founder of Service by the Boxes, a consulting and coaching practice dedicated to helping heavy equipment dealerships improve profitability through service management training, leadership development, and operational coaching. He specializes in helping dealers build best-in-class service departments, boost absorption rates, and create clear, repeatable processes that reduce chaos and drive results.

John is the author of Service by the Boxes, a practical manual for dealership leaders who want to grow a high-performing product support business. His work has been featured on industry podcasts, in trade publications, and at major association events like AED, IEDA, and AEMP. He also leads in-person workshops and one-on-one coaching programs designed to elevate parts and service performance across teams of all sizes.

When he’s not working with dealers, John enjoys life with his high school sweetheart and their three children. Together, they spend time outdoors — camping, hunting, gardening, and soaking up the quiet joys of country life.
