Michael Oak, affectionately known as Uncle Michael, Uncle Mike, FUNcle Mike, or simply Unc, is a children's book author with a deep-rooted passion for nature and science. Born in Houston, Texas, Mike's early childhood was spent mostly in the New England states of Maine and New Hampshire, where his fascination with the natural world began. His youthful adventures exploring the woods and wilderness around him laid the foundation for his lifelong love of nature.

Currently, Mike resides in Berryville, Virginia with his wife, Dr. Jen Riley, a wildlife veterinarian. Their home, a quaint tiny log cabin, is nestled on a few rural acres, providing an ideal backdrop for his creative inspirations. Mike's personal experiences and close connection with nature heavily influence his writing.

Dedicated to his family, Mike finds joy in writing children's books for and about his many nieces and nephews. His stories often reflect his enthusiasm for the outdoors and aim to instill a sense of wonder and respect for the natural world in young readers.
