James Berry

James Berry, a true Renaissance man driven to explore a little bit of everything life has to offer, launched his musical career at an early age, profoundly shaped by his parents—his father, Eric, the founding conductor of the Casco Bay Concert Band in Portland, Maine, and his mother, a trained vocalist. Surrounded by the vibrant sounds of classical, jazz, and myriad other genres, he has flourished as a professional musician and educator for over two decades.

In 2011, Berry co-founded the Hilton Head Jazz Camp in South Carolina, a celebrated program that has inspired young jazz enthusiasts for more than 15 years. He also launched Bear Notch Studios, a versatile creative powerhouse delivering original content, music education tools, and an array of services—from voice-over artistry and composition to arranging and beyond.

An accomplished author and editor, Berry's recent publications include "The Musician's Practice Journal: Deep and Purposeful Practice for the Serious Musician" and "Echoes of the Deep: Letters from the Titanic", with a new release on the horizon for late 2025.
