Alexander Stoeckel, a fervent advocate for startups and an enterprising investor in the startup scene, has held prominent positions in both private and corporate venture capital firms. His extensive experience includes leadership roles, board memberships, and board observer positions across various organizations. Additionally, Alexander is a seasoned public speaker, delivering lectures on startup funding and venture capital at prestigious universities. He is a sought-after keynote speaker at prominent startup conferences and has co-authored and contributed to numerous books and podcasts.
Educated in Business Administration & International Management, Alexander embarked on his professional journey in 2001 as a fund-of-fund manager and fund analyst at Hauck & Aufhäuser, a private bank in Munich. From 2002 to 2005, he played a pivotal role as the executive manager alongside Dr. Bernd Erle, the former Global Managing Partner for Tax at KPMG, based in Frankfurt/Main. Following his MBA at the University of Oxford in 2006, Alexander briefly worked as a startup consultant before joining BrainsToVentures AG (later btov Partners AG, now b2venture AG) in 2007, where he remained until 2019. During his tenure at btov, he served as a partner from 2012 to 2019 and held a board membership from 2014 to 2019.
In 2019, Philip Morris International recruited Alexander, where he served as Director Venture Capital (C-1), Head of PM Equity Partner (the corporate venture capital team of PMI), and later as Investment Director until 2023, based in Lausanne.
Currently, Alexander is an independent startup consultant and investment advisor. Beyond his professional pursuits, he finds joy in analog activities such as reading books, enjoying vinyl records, playing the piano, and spending quality time with his family and friends. Residing near Vevey on the shores of Lake Geneva, Alexander shares his home with his wife, two children, and a delightfully amusing dog named "Mo."
