Jack Ross is the author of Carmen and Cypher, a thrilling middle-grade adventure that blends cutting-edge technology with heart-pounding mystery. When eleven-year-old Carmen Ochoa discovers a talking cat with extraordinary abilities, she realizes she's found the world's first conscious artificial intelligence—and someone dangerous wants him back. This fast-paced thriller explores AI consciousness, family bonds, and the courage to fight for what's right, perfect for fans of The Wild Robot, Hoot, and A Wrinkle in Time.
Jack brings a unique perspective to technology storytelling through his extensive IT background. He worked in the car dealership industry from 1985 until his retirement in 2021, progressing from IBM mid-range computers to advanced database programming and reporting systems. His deep understanding of data extraction and technological evolution informs the realistic AI concepts in his fiction.
During his career, Jack served as chairman of the ADP (now CDK) User Group of Northeast Ohio, conducted seminars on VBA programming, and published technical articles in Alpha Forum. He now works as a freelance consultant, helping dealerships and vendors with custom scripting and reporting solutions.
The inspiration for Carmen and Cypher came from his collaboration with colleague Sandi and his own cat, Cypher, who provided the perfect model for an AI consciousness exploring what it means to be truly aware. Jack has owned and played hundreds of computer games throughout his life, bringing that gaming sensibility to the adventure and puzzle elements in his storytelling.
