Mike Lloyd was born in the Surrey countryside shortly after the outbreak of the Second World War and has spent much of his life proving that sitting quietly was never really his strong point.
After serving in the RAF, he went into business, eventually building his own successful companies before selling them and retiring. But business was only part of the story.
For ten years Mike raced offshore powerboats, competing in a sport where high speeds, rough seas and the occasional alarming moment were all part of the entertainment. His involvement with powerboat racing eventually culminated in one of the greatest challenges of his life — organising the 2008 Round Britain Powerboat Race, an international event involving 47 race teams and a 1,500-mile course around the British coastline.
That extraordinary adventure became the subject of his first book, Third Time Round, the true story of the people, problems, triumphs and occasional chaos behind staging one of offshore powerboat racing's great events.
Then Mike turned from fact to fiction.
His adventure thriller, Dead Reckoning, follows a man whose emergency landing in the Brazilian rainforest sets in motion a chain of events involving survival, wealth, murder, revenge and British Intelligence.
Mike now lives in Cornwall close to the sea. When he isn't writing or remembering some of the more improbable adventures of his past, he enjoys reading, good company, lunch with his wife and friends — and, whenever possible, avoiding vexatious people.
