I am actually very glad I didn't do well at school! I may never have become a teacher! There is a bit more to my story than that but it hopefully leaves you hooked. My first year of primary teaching was a baptism of fire. I had secured a job in a small, rural school with a mixed age class and was curriculum leader for English, PE, Music, Worship and the SENDCo. It was an interesting time and I met and taught some interesting characters. Fast forward two years and I am a new dad, a homeowner and now in a two-form entry city school where I have a year 5 class, lead Music, therefore hymn practice, every Thursday, me, a guitar and four hundred kids! But I loved it, Over my 20 years as a Teacher Educator I have taught PGCE students who I first taught when they were 9. I have proved that actually I wasn't the right-off my teachers made me out to be - I have a Masters Degree and a PhD now and have just had my second book published!
Keeping me grounded however, are my amazing wife of 27 years, my three children and our two family dogs.
It's also quite amazing how much in my life I have drawn on my brief career as a pig farmer prior to teaching.
