I grew up as the second child to my black parents in a small town in Tennessee. My parents were hard-working, intelligent people who excelled in their own business and the realm of politics. My sister is seven years older than me which wasn't easy for her because she had to be more of a babysitter than a sister. I know that my existence complicated her life, but she still loves me. Now, happily married for 30 years (to the same person who is white), I have a daughter and granddaughter, all of whom I love very much. This book was written to hopefully help people, encourage people, and show them that they are not alone. All of us have our own struggles, some worse than others, but just by listening and showing empathy, we can make a difference. I hope that Hating Self motivates you and uplifts you. My next book is called Loving Self which I hope I can publish in the future.
