V.G. Kumar Das is an Emeritus Professor and a senior fellow Academician) of the Malaysian Academy of Sciences and also a fellow of The World Academy of Sciences. A Colombo Plan scholar and graduate of the University of Queensland (Australia), he has won national and international laurels for his work on tin-based chemicals at the University of Malaya (UM), where he had a distinguished academic career as the first holder of the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry and served several terms as Dean of the Faculty of Science. After retirement from UM, he became the Founding Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of two private universities. He has authored numerous journal publications and four scientific books relating to his interdisciplinary research encompassing chemistry, biology, and materials science. He has recently authored a biography and two fictional books that have also gained him recognition as a novelist. His latest book, “The Tapestry of Science: A Multidisciplinary Review of Fundamental and Contemporary Topics” is a collection of his extra-mural writings over a period spanning a breadth of disciplines to foster a holistic interest in science among students, professionals, and the public at large.
