Paula Maust is a musician, scholar, and educator dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices. Her first book, Expanding the Music Theory Canon (2023), is a print anthology inspired by the site of music theory examples by historical women and/or people of color she released in 2021. Paula is also one of the early modern editors for the monumental women, gender, and sexuality revision of Grove Music Online. Described as “a particularly compelling speaker,” Paula lectures regularly around the United States on issues of classroom inclusivity and early modern women musicians. As a harpsichordist, Paula co-directs Musica Spira, a baroque chamber ensemble committed to highlighting historical women’s musical activities. She also performs extensively as a continuo player with numerous ensembles in the Baltimore—Washington, D.C. region. Paula is Assistant Professor of Music Theory at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.
