James Mukoyama

Major General James H. Mukoyama, Jr. was born on August 3, 1944, the second son to Japanese immigrants in Chicago, IL. "Mook" as he was affectionately known during his military career rose from humble, blue collar roots to becoming the first Asian-American to command a US Army division, with thirty years of active and reserve service including tours of Korea and Vietnam—earning the Silver Star, Bronze Star (x3), Purple Heart, and more along the way. Beyond his service, General Mukoyama has continued to be a trailblazer for Asian-Americans and minorities everywhere, serving as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee for Minority Veterans, Vice-Chairman of the National Japanese-American Memorial to Patriotism, and as a devoted member of the ministry of Military Outreach, USA. General Mukoyama currently lives with his beloved wife and inspiration KJ, in Glenview, IL.
