Alan Batchelor

Born in Belfast in 1946, the ninth child in a family of 16 children, brought up in a working class community by Joe and Jeannie Batchelor, Alan Batchelor was the first to attend university (Trinity College Dublin) after an education at Annadale Grammar School. Alan's father was a Dunkirk survivor, whose mother Emma was born in Enniskillen Workhouse in 1883.

Alan's career was to be in education as a teacher at the King's School in Macclesfield, where he taught from 1968 until his retirement. His subjects comprised languages (French and Russian), Divinity, as RE was first labelled at the school, and latterly Information Technology and sport, notably Squash.

His passion for squash led him to qualify as a squash coach and squash referee, with involvement at Club, County, Regional and National level. He was for several years chairman of Cheshire County Squash Association, and also, for a time, chair at his local club

As a committed Christian, he is an occasional preacher at a local church.

His writings reflect his interests and it is only in retirement that he has found time to pursue this activity.
