Dr. Myia Lang Graves

During my childhood, I was introduced to health-related concepts by my mom through community outreach programs. It was at that point I knew I was passionate about health. As a public health professional, my primary interest is to continue gaining expertise in child health. I have learned the importance of introducing health-related topics to children over the years. At young, impressionable ages, children can become familiar with concepts that will have a significant influence on their future health outcomes.

My first book, Leah and A Grocery Story, is loosely based on experiences that I had grocery shopping with my dad. I wrote this story as a basis for conversations about health-related topics, like nutrition. Health topics are necessary to discuss so that we can help prevent children from making unhealthy choices and developing lifelong bad habits. Additionally, I wrote this book as the start of a series that aims to contribute to health knowledge for children and offer ideas for skills needed to implement and sustain healthy behaviors into adulthood. I hope through my character, Leah, children will become interested in learning what it requires to live a healthy lifestyle.
