Tara Lee writes stories shaped by curiosity, lived experience, and the complicated ways people survive, grow, and begin again. Her work spans children’s literature, historical fiction, humor, and thoughtful explorations of relationships and social systems.
Childhood adventures in the Pacific Northwest, military service, and treasure hunting have all found their way into her imagination. A University of Southern California graduate and veteran of both the U.S. Marine Corps and Army, Tara is permanently and totally disabled as a result of her military service. Her experiences as a medic, nurse, and social worker inform her writing, alongside her understanding of disability, resilience, and the stories people carry.
Since beginning her writing journey in 2022, she has explored memory, belonging, and the possibilities of new beginnings. Some of her books invite reflection; others offer adventure, laughter, or a fresh way of looking at familiar things.
Tara enjoys exploring history with her daughter, Mary, finding inspiration in unexpected places, and making room for creativity, healing, and everyday joy.
