Pawsitive Tails

Carol Jonas brings a unique blend of experience as a psychologist, children's book author, and former corporate professional. After a successful career in information technology and running her own embroidery business, Carol earned her psychology degree at age 55 and became a certified Reiki master. Together with her daughter Leah, she has raised two successful Guide Dogs for the Blind, while also being a devoted wife and mother of two adult children.

Pawsitive Tails was born from Carol's understanding of the profound connection between children and their pets. The foundation's flagship book series features two of the family's own beloved pets: Marlow and Tito. Using her own pets as conduits, Marlow with ADD, and Tito presenting with depression, the books serve as gentle conversation starters between children and their parents, counselors, or therapists. Drawing from personal experience raising children who faced dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, anxiety, and depression, Carol advocates strongly for open dialogue and self-advocacy.

The Pawsitive Tails book series uses dogs to educate and open dialogue about mental health challenges, by packaging these challenging topics into stories that are relatable to children. Carol's own family approach to these challenges involved comprehensive support, including work with therapists, psychiatrists, and school counselors. Dr. Krafchick, their family psychiatrist specializing in children and adolescents, praised the series: "I enjoyed reading all three books, and they are now in my waiting room for kids to enjoy as well. I appreciate your thoughtfulness; your books are beautiful in words and illustrations.”

These books create a positive platform for communication between children, parents, friends, family, and teachers. Designed for children ages 6-10 and their parents, the series can also serve as a valuable resource for educators and school counselors. When used alongside other therapeutic tools, the books provide a safe space for children to express their feelings and feel less alone with their diagnoses. Early therapeutic intervention helps children adapt to their unique challenges and builds a foundation for understanding the valuable role of professional support in their future.

Looking ahead, Carol envisions expanding Pawsitive Tails to encompass more books and products that explore the positive relationship between pets, children and early mental health identification and interventions. Drawing from her psychology background and parenting experience, she aims to share successful interventions that helped navigate her family's journey. Carol remains committed to continuous learning and developing new ways to contribute to the Pawsitive Tails mission.
