Joel's background is in visual arts. He made kinetic sculpture for years before he became an electronics design engineer. Joel taught physical computing at Parsons, in NYC from 2006 to 2014, and has participated in several successful technology crowdfunding startups. In 2011 he co-founded World Famous Electronics, maker of the Pulse Sensor, and in 2014 he crowd-funded and co-founded OpenBCI, a company that makes high quality low cost brain-computer interface devices. Most recently, he has created and co-developed Tympan, an Open Source hearing-aid development platform. Joel is CTO of the psychedelic start-up Cydelic, and also owns the technology consulting firm, Flywheel Lab. Joel lives and works in Troy, NY.
