James Henry Cook

James H. Cook, Ed.D., is an East Tennessee author whose fiction blends horror, suspense, mystery, and Appalachian folklore. His stories explore the secrets people bury, the consequences that refuse to stay hidden, and the enduring power of faith, family, justice, and redemption.

He is the author of The Briar Walker, an Appalachian slasher novel steeped in local legend, guilt, and revenge. Drawing inspiration from the shadowed forests, mountain communities, and storytelling traditions of Southern Appalachia, Cook creates atmospheric tales in which familiar places conceal unsettling truths.

Cook is also an educator and U.S. Army National Guard veteran with more than fifteen years of experience in K–12 and higher education. When he is not writing, he works in educational technology and online learning. He lives in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains with his wife, Amber, and their four children.
