Andrew Denning is Associate Professor of History at the University of Kansas, where he also serves as Director of the Museum Studies Program. His work focuses on technology, mobility, and empire in the twentieth century, with a particular focus on the intertwined histories of France, Germany, and Italy in Europe and across the world.
His first book, Skiing Into Modernity: A Cultural and Environmental History appeared with University of California Press in 2015. Automotive Empire: How Cars and Roads Fueled European Colonialism in Africa is forthcoming with Cornell University Press in 2024. Alongside Heidi J.S. Tworek, he is the co-editor of The Interwar World (Routledge, 2024). His articles and commentary have appeared in American Historical Review, Journal of Modern History, Environmental History, Technology & Culture, and the Atlantic.
