Alex V. Barnard

Alex V Barnard is an assistant professor of sociology at New York University, and the author of "Conservatorship: Inside California's System of Coercion and Care for Mental Illness" (Columbia University Press). His previous book, "Freegans: Diving into the Wealth of Food Waste in America" (University of Minnesota Press), followed a group of "dumpster divers" in New York City who recovered and redistributed discarded food as an act of political protest.
