Hey!

I am Orlene, author of, "How to Build Your Antiracist Classroom".

I am really glad you are here and finding out a little more about the book and myself. I have been a teaching assistant, a teacher for almost 20 years and a Headteacher for 7 of those years. I deliver training across a range of organisations including schools and settings, corporate organisations and charities and describe myself as a racial literacy expert with extensive knowledge of the education system and how to challenge those entrenched systems that continue to create barriers. I have a passion for helping educators to dismantle inequalities for all of their pupils and their families to enact real change.

This book is an opportunity to make real systemic change visible. To support all educators in understanding the impact they can create in their own classrooms, tutor rooms, form rooms; in fact any room in which we have the power to advocate and amplify. I have worked with thousands of educators over the time of my career, worked with in excess of 200 schools and understand the changes that can be made, as well as understanding all of the challenges faced. I am an avid reader myself which has also definitely impacted on my journey as an author.

This book is the beginning of my journey to challenge systemic racism in the education system and beyond. One classroom at a time, something we can all do together.
