Stephen Howard Bean

Born 1954. London, England. Bean grew up in a small Muslim village on the edge of a mountain plateau in East Africa and was educated in a Jesuit Boarding school in Zimbabwe. After finishing secondary school Bean took an apprenticeship as a trainee cameraman and then went on to study Photography in Brighton Poly, and the Open University in England. He was made a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society in 2002, and a Fellow in 2004. Over the years he has worked with internationally acclaimed artists such as James Turrell, Franz Staehler, Marshall Hutson, Gerd Kever and Patrick Bradfield.

He teaches Photography and Photographic Lighting in The Center for Adult Continuing Education in University College Cork, Ireland. He also runs Photographic Lighting Classes for the Lewis Glucksman Gallery in Cork.

He is University College Cork’s documentary filmmaker.
