Katherine Leamy

Katherine Leamy loves to travel.

Her four-week solo trip to Italy and Croatia sparked a passion for helping others discover the freedom of travelling light and exploring solo travel as a form of self-care. Trading heavy, overloaded bags for a lighter pack, completely transformed her journeys, and it can transform yours too.

Travelling alone gave her the courage to step outside her comfort zone and to do things she never thought possible. Today she shares her experiences as a blogger and a go-to voice for all things travelling light and solo, work that had her recieve the JourneyWomen Solo Travel Wisdom Award in 2026.

Based in New Zealand, Katherine works part-time as a nurse and volunteers overseas on the Mercy Ships, which keeps her grounded in what really matters. For her, travel is connecting with people across the globe, learning how others live, and appreciating our differences and similarities.

When she’s not off exploring the world, or tackling multi-day hikes, you will find her tapping away at her computer, sharing tips and inspiring others to pack less and travel solo on her blog, The 5 Kilo Traveller.

Katherine is currently working on her next book, a part-memoir, part-how-to guide that dives even deeper into the art of packing light.
