Timothy Appleton studied discourse analysis with Ernesto Laclau at the University of Essex, before doing a PhD in Philosophy at the Complutense University of Madrid. He is currently a linguistics lecturer at the Camilo José Cela University, Madrid. His first book in Spanish was called Escupir en la iglesia: un sí de izquierda al Brexit (Spitting in Church: A left-wing yes to Brexit, Ediciones Lengua de Trapo, 2019), his second was La política que viene: Hacia un populismo de las singularidades (The Politics to Come: Towards a Populism of Singularities, NED Ediciones, 2022). His first English book was A Lacanian Conception of Populism: Society does not exist (Routledge 2023). He is a coeditor of the psychoanalysis and politics online magazine: LacanEmancipa.
