Larry McCaffery

LARRY McCAFFERY is Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature at San Diego State University, California, and one of the most important literary scholars, critics, and editors of innovative contemporary fiction. His numerous and influential publications, e.g., on metafiction, postmodernism, cyberpunk, and avant-pop, include four groundbreaking books of interviews with contemporary authors and three equally important fiction anthologies. There are only a very few scholars in literary and cultural studies who have pursued new scholarly paths through unknown and rough terrain with such intellectual fervor, stamina, sincerity, self-awareness, and—last but not least (and very necessary!)—humor than McCaffery.

"One of the nerviest, least cautious editors going, Larry McCaffery is the No-Care Bear of American letters."

—William Gibson, author of NEUROMANCER

"If postmodern literature can be likened to a jungle—full of dense, unexplored terrain clogged with suffocating growths of post-structuralist jargon, roamed by strange and dangerous experimental texts, many of which have yet to be classified or even seen by human beings—then Larry McCaffery is Tarzan, King of the Postmodern Jungle."

—Lewis Shiner, author of FRONTERA and GLIMPSES
