Jonathan Bouw

Memories of home have always been an influence in Jonathan’s work. Born and raised in the Philippines, he grew up speaking a tribal dialect, loving the smell of durian, making bamboo cannons, and thinking that everyone decorated Christmas trees in September. After moving to the United States, he attended art school in New York City. He has been a professional illustrator ever since, working for such clients as Sky Pony, Young Dragons Press, Annies Publishing, Oxford University Press, Book of the Month Club, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Harvard University, The AARP, Education Week, Sojourners, and Christianity Today to name a few.

Jonathan is also a university professor teaching classes in illustration, drawing, and graphic design.

Some of his awards include the Fulbright Scholars award, the Society of Illustrators Stevan Dohanos Award, The Gelett Burgess Children’s Book Award, and the Paula Rhodes Memorial Award.
