Mr. Randolph is retired from a career as systems analyst for the US Navy at China Lake, California. His academic credentials include a degree in physics from Point Loma Nazarene University and a degree in national security affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School. His interest in the American Revolutionary War stems from his research into the military careers of his ancestors who served in that war. His first book, Thomas Hubbard’s War, (2014), chronicles the service of a Virginian who served for almost the entire war. Readers have commended the book as “Well written and very well documented … an excellent job.” And “a wonderful book! … detailed enough for historians, but readable enough for history buffs and the general reader.” His next book, Captain Charles Fordyce, 14th Foot, (2019), is a biography of a British infantry officer. Fordyce was killed at the Battle of Great Bridge, Virginia on December 9, 1775. This book was reviewed in the Virginian-Pilot as “utterly absorbing, thoroughly researched and most informative.” Mr. Randolph’s third book, Service of a Delicate Nature: The 14th Regiment of Foot in America 1766 – 1776 (2025), is a follow on to his second book. It chronicles the service of the 14th Regiment as they performed the delicate service of enforcing the Revenue Acts of 1767 in Boston, their follow-on service in the Caribbean in 1773, then in Florida, Nova Scotia, New York and Virginia in the first months of the Revolutionary War.
