Patricia Austin, a teacher and author, lives in New Orleans with her cats. Her children’s books include a collection of poetry for children, Elephant of Sadness, Butterfly of Joy, illustrated by Megan Elizabeth Baratta, and a picture book, The Cat Who Loved Mozart illustrated by Henri Sorenson, which won the Muse Award from the Cat Writers’ Association. A long-time elementary teacher and a professor of children’s literature, she has also published a teaching memoir, Tales From a Teaching Life: Vignettes in Verse chronicling her career.
