L.L. Saucerman

For me writing is as natural as breathing. I have always created stories and characters for myself. As a child I was an avid reader, but I was always sad when a book ended, and I would make up stories and characters so I could continue to immerse myself in the worlds I loved though play. I started writing these stories in high school, and my first series of novels began as an assigned 5-page story for my sophomore English class. When the story reached 20 pages and was nowhere near finished, I asked the teacher if I could turn in a chapter of the budding book. She said yes on the condition that I finish it someday. I’m still working on that set of stories. It blossomed into 5000 years of history and what will eventually be an entire series of books. I’m still working on it, Mrs. Bristow!

When I was younger, I was extremely shy about my writing and only shared my stories with my immediate family. I self-published The IM Chronicles: Nexus, but never marketed it, content simply to have a bound copy of my book. When I began teaching at the high-school and middle-school level I reached a point where I wanted to share my love of writing with my students. I decided to read them some excerpts of the stories I had written. Their reaction was not what I expected. Not only did they develop a better appreciation for writing as a potentially fun activity, but they also loved my stories, and wanted me to read them more. As I did so, my confidence grew, and I decided that I needed to put my work in print so they could finish reading The Empires of the Void series they loved so much, and as a result I am sharing it with the world. The first book in the series Brotherhood was released in 2017. The second book Allegiance was delayed due to a series of complications but was just released in August of 2023.

I am still a teacher, though I am working with elementary students that are a little too young for my stories (which tend to be on the violent side) but I still try to foster a love of writing in my students and spend my breaks and summers working on my books. I am currently reading my first book, Nexus, one chapter at a time. I call it “story-time” because that is what my husband and sons have always called it when I’m writing and sharing my drafts with them. I chose to start with Nexus because it is my first published book, and it is a shorter book and stands alone. This way I can see how difficult it is to record and be consistent without leaving anyone hanging. When Nexus is finished, I’ll decide if I should read my other works. Since I am doing this I also republished a second edition of Nexus, not using a pseudonym, and with a new cover and better editing and layout for e-books in 2023.
