"When the magic seems gone, always remember to look for the rainbow."—Isaac's Ice Cream Tree
I love writing children's books because anything is possible! Ice cream can grow on trees. Tree houses can be saved by a team of friendly forest animals. Magical Maples can bloom rainbow leaves by planting & spreading seeds of friendship...anything is possible.
Helping kids see the good in tough situations is one of my passions for writing children's books. My trio collection, Isaac's Ice Cream Tree, Isaac & Izzy's Tree House, & Isaac & Izzy's Magical Maples, carries a strong SEL (social emotional learning) element embedded in each magical story.
My personal story has a heavy share of pain, yet knowing that the sun still rises, the flowers still bloom, and stories still heal, keeps me writing TO SEE the WONDER in kids' eyes. Doing author visits is still my favorite "job" for this very reason.
I've mothered three kids of my own (still in process), taught 1,411 students as an English teacher, coached winning writing teams, published my students' works, created a nonprofit helping single moms & their kids, married a good man, Neal Smith, and most recently taken risks to go full time as an author myself, & my take-away from the journey thus far is that what matters most is to see the good in each person and to help him or her see it too...and bring it out.
Thank you for sharing my books with the kids in your life. May they find hope, and see the good in life, themselves, and others.
