Kathryn Krase is a social worker, lawyer, researcher and educator. Dr. Krase is the Principal Consultant for Krase Consulting, in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Krase also leads the initiative, Making the Tough Call, a project that educate and inform professional reporters of suspected child abuse and neglect so that they are prepared to intervene to protect children when necessary, while respecting and supporting family integrity wherever possible.
Dr. Krase is an expert in the reporting of suspected child maltreatment. She has co-authored multiple books on the subject. She trains thousands of mandated reporters a year over the past two decades. Her dissertation on reports of suspected child maltreatment was highlighted by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Children and Families as addressing one of a few compelling research issues in the field of child welfare. This recognition in the annual publication, Child Maltreatment, singled out her unique interest in examining child maltreatment reporting at the county level. Dr. Krase has worked with New York State’s Office and Children and Family Services to identify concerns in reporting in New York State. Dr. Krase was asked by the Commissioner of New Jersey’s Department of Children and Families to collaborate with the department to address concerns in reporting in that state and assist in the development of related legislation.
Dr. Krase previously served as a law guardian and guardian-ad-litem representing children in New York City Family Court for the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Dr. Krase also served as the Associate Director of Fordham University's Interdisciplinary Center for Family and Child Advocacy and the Clinical Social Work Supervisor for the Family Defense Clinic at New York University Law School.
Dr. Krase served on the full-time faculty of Ramapo College of New Jersey, LIU Brooklyn and Yeshiva University's Wurzweiler School of Social Service. Dr. Krase is a Fulbright Specialist, having completed a project with the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Social Development in 2019.
