Cedar Pruitt is an author and presenter with a love for art and discovery.
Her forthcoming lyrical nonfiction picture book, WHAT MARCEL FOUND: THE INCREDIBLE DISCOVERY OF THE LASCAUX CAVE PAINTINGS (illustrated by David Litchfield; Beach Lane Books/Simon & Schuster) will be available everywhere that books are sold on October 13, 2026.
WHAT MARCEL FOUND explores the gripping true story of four boys who discovered the stunning cave art of Lascaux in 1940s occupied France as WWII raged overhead.
Her debut picture book, FIRE FLIGHT: A WILDFIRE ESCAPE (illustrated by Chiara Fedele; Capstone, 2024) was named a Best Children's Book of the Year by Bank Street College of Education.
With humor and suspense, FIRE FLIGHT tells the real-life story of an owl that flew out of a wildfire and into a firefighting helicopter where it rode along with the pilot for multiple water drops. The pilot took an incredible picture that is included in the book.
Publisher's Weekly calls FIRE FLIGHT "a kid-friendly account that simultaneously underscores the dangers of wildfire and the capacity of nature to surprise."
Cedar has also published humor, memoir, and poetry; holds an M.Ed. from Harvard University; and lives in New England with her family.
