Michael Gardiner is the author of Cali-Baja Cuisine: Tijuana Tacos, Ensenada Aguachiles, San Diego Cali Burritos + more (Rizzoli, September 2023) and Modern Kosher: Global Flavors, New Traditions, (Rizzoli, September 2020).. Gardiner is a regular food feature writer for the The San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego’s newspaper of record, as well as Edible San Diego magazine. Gardiner is also a Contributing Editor for The Cook’s Cook, a weekly online publication with over 18,000 monthly unique website visitors. He was the long-time restaurant reviewer for the late-lamented San Diego CityBeat (a Pandemic casualty) alternative weekly that had a weekly circulation of 50,000. Gardiner won 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 San Diego Press Club awards (most recently two Golds and a Bronze) for his contributions to these various publications, including for articles relating directly to the food of Baja on both sides of the border.
