Mel Sobolewski

Children’s author Mel Sobolewski writes animal-themed stories that feel authentic because they are. As an animal rescuer, she is focused on the rehabilitation and placement of animals into homes and sanctuaries, assisting in emergency animal evacuation efforts during natural disasters, and lobbying for animal welfare laws on a state and federal level. Mel’s expertise shines through in her new middle-grade series, Moonlight Mile Ranch, a collection of amazing adventures of animals given second chances.

Mel was inspired to write her book after picking up her daughter from school in muddy cowboy boots and Wrangler Jeans. The students were eager to hear stories about a day on the ranch with the animals. Their desire to learn planted a seed in Mel, and she created her stories to give young readers an opportunity to learn more about animals while also being able to tackle difficult discussions, like bullying or feeling left out, through storytelling from the animals’ perspectives.

Mel thinks a great book is one that evokes emotion in the reader and that shares a positive message that can impact our daily choices and inspire us to do better. She hopes her young readers come away from her stories wanting to advocate for those without a voice and understanding that love has the power to transform lives, and that this stays with them long after the book is closed
