John R. Miles

John R. Miles is a #1 bestselling author, speaker, and host of the award-winning Passion Struck podcast, which has surpassed 85 million downloads worldwide. He is the author of The Mattering Effect: Creating a Life of Meaning and Worth and Passion Struck, both selected as Next Big Idea Club Must-Reads.

A graduate of the United States Naval Academy and former Fortune 50 CIO and executive, John spent decades leading organizations and helping people perform at their highest level. From the outside, his career looked like a success story. But somewhere along the way, he realized he was disappearing inside the very systems he had become so good at leading.

He began seeing the same pattern in talented people around him: individuals who were indispensable to their organizations but increasingly invisible within them. This realization changed his life's mission, shifting his focus from pure performance to a deeper human exploration: What happens when people become so focused on performing that they slowly disappear from their own lives?

This vital question became the foundation of John's work on mattering—the fundamental human need to feel valued and to know that we can make a meaningful difference.
