Ever wondered what makes people pen down their thoughts, ideas, and imagination and offer it to the world for acceptance and propagation? As I advanced in years and observed life closely, I realized that I wanted to communicate on a variety of issues with not just a handful of people but the people living in all corners of the globe. The only way to do so, I concluded was to either make a motion picture or write a book. I weighed the two options and found that a book is a much better medium as it allows for the growth of content or text as against a motion picture that mostly gives the viewers a linear perspective.
My first book published on Amazon KDP was The Territory of the Departed was a collection of horror and mystery short stories. The stories have been inspired by the author’s personal experiences and beliefs. Obviously, the events have been exaggerated to shape them into fictional accounts. However, the author has made a genuine attempt to have a dialogue with the readers on a subject that he never tires of exploring. The title story ‘The Territory of the Departed’ depicts the tragedy of a blogger who starts a blog on the supernatural based on his true personal experiences. In his bid to fetch maximum content for the blog and to gain fame he repeatedly ignores the warnings he receives during his dangerous escapades in the world of the preternatural. Eventually he meets a terrible fate. The second story 'The Whispering Shadows' recounts the tragic and horrifying tale of a group of students who in an ill-omened moment decide to spend a night at a heavily haunted fort in Rajasthan, India. The third and fourth stories 'The Misty Phenomenon' and 'The Antarctic Illusions?' respectively relate the tales of the rise of a dangerous mist in the mountains and a strange event in the life of an Antarctic adventurer. The last story 'The Return' deals with a mysterious event on a spaceship that threatens the very existence of human race. The author wishes to dedicate this book to all the lovers of the spooky accounts and the mystery tales.
My second book ‘An Awakening in the Himalayas’ published on Aamzon KDP relates a story that melds the boundaries between reality and dreams. Many a time reality and dreams merge to give us the best moments of our lives. It is also true that life itself is a dream. And not so infrequently our dreams become our lives. So there are no firm boundaries in life that divide our experiences and our dreams. Everything truly happens and is experienced in our brains. Extreme suffering or pain that mostly comes from losing someone we love intensely or through an ailment or accident of serious nature has the potential to metamorphose our mindsets in ways that more often than not seem incredible. And it raises some questions that are addressed to us – the human race.
I published my third book through Notion Press but is also available on Amazon KDP. Titled 'Deconstructing Existence,' it addresses the much discussed but mostly misunderstood or neglected issue of women empowerment. It is my firm belief that we (humans) have failed to evolve into a judicious and balanced civilization and one of the topmost reasons for this is the centuries long neglect and oppression of women. The book traces the journey of Nicole – a victim of abuse - to and through the cradle of civilization - India. Her journey takes her from the crowded and yet fascinating lanes of New Delhi to the mystical and stunningly picturesque landscapes of Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh. Her relationship with Aryan, an idiosyncratic guide; her interaction with Shirin, a fiery engineering student; and a special bond with Archana - a crusader of women's rights, lead to an overwhelmingly transformative experience. Also discussed in the book is our way of dealing with historical events, buildings, and identities and how they are used to create hatred and animosity that leads to riots and destructive wars. The book does not just raise questions but also points towards possible answers or solutions.
My fourth book that I have published through Amazon Kindle titled 'Monsters and the Unlikely Saviors' is the story about five friends living in a town in the hills who discover through a series of fantastic events that they are destined to fight an extremely evil and powerful force in order to save humanity. While fighting the evil, they also need to fight their fears and mistrust. The story is written in the horror / fantasy genre but it is also an allegory and I invite the readers to figure out the import on their own. The book also includes an extended short story titled 'The Darkest Night - Reign of the Monsters' which makes for an interesting read.
The fifth book that I have written is a sequel to the fourth one (Monsters and the Unlikely Saviors) and is titled Monsters and the Unlikely Saviors - The Heart of the Evil (Vol II). Two of the survivors from the group of friends in the original book return to Shimla – their beloved hometown - from Mumbai determined to go back to the cave and once again confront the evil force that had been responsible for disappearance of their dear friends Abhishek and Sana. Planning to team up with Sonia, another survivor from their harrowing ordeal in the cave, they fly to Chandigarh from Mumbai and hire a cab to travel back to Shimla. However, while still in the outskirts of their hometown their cab is attacked by a huge bear thing pushing them off the cliff. The nightmare begins afresh. They discover their town is being stalked and tormented by bear like monsters. Barely managing to survive the attack, they make it Sonia’s bungalow somehow and there the three friends brainstorm on the strategy to return to the cave to rescue their friends and fight the evil force to finish what they had failed to accomplish during their first attempt. The tall saint returns to counsel them and equip them for their fight with the evil entities and they embark on another journey to the land of the evil to exterminate the dark force. Their task becomes complicated and spills beyond the land of the evil back to their hometown with unforeseen and traumatic repercussions for them.
More than anything else I wish the readers to enjoy my works and – I put this humbly – learn something in the process that would help them make our world a better place for the present and future generations. I would love to hear from my readers. I can be contacted through email on my email ID given hereunder.
I am also open to offer my books for movie / web series adaptations.
