Rupert Grey

Rupert Grey is a libel and copyright lawyer, photographer, journalist and explorer. He has travelled on foot and horseback, by dug-out canoe, dog sledge, camel, elephant, bush-plane and land-rover to some of the wildest and most remote places on earth. His photographs have been exhibited in the UK and Bangladesh, and his articles have been widely published in magazines ranging from Vogue to National Geographic.

His technical expertise and understanding of the trade in images coupled with his specialist knowledge of the complex legal issues with which professional photographers contend, underpin his legal practice, now with Swan Turton in Covent Garden. Alongside lecturing in many countries, he has represented many of the leading photographic agencies and institutions in the sector and handled disputes over some of the most prominent and valuable images of the 20th Century.

Grey’s love affair with Bangladesh includes an epic transcontinental journey through India to Chobi Mela in a vintage Rolls-Royce, later portrayed in the award-winning documentary Romantic Road. His photographs, mostly taken on film, speak powerfully of the cultural vitality and energy which inspired his book Homage to Bangladesh. Home is a remote thatched cottage in Sussex with his wife Jan.
