Praise for this Author

Beyond academia, Reffell has been deeply committed to storytelling as a vehicle for cultural expression and political reflection. In the 1970s, he founded Womi and Massala Theatrical Entertainers (WAMTE), one of Liberia’s pioneering performing arts groups. He authored the acclaimed drama Deeds, Not Words, centered on President Edward James Roye, who succumbed to the first coup d’état on African soil. He later wrote and co-produced I Beg Your Pardon, Liberia’s first feature-length film. That film has now been reimagined in literary form as Lovers’ Ordeal, continuing his lifelong dedication to amplifying African histories through creative media.

As proprietor of the J. T. Reffell Memorial French Friendship School in Sierra Leone and founder of The Pan-African Student Voice Ltd., a media house, Reffell continues to champion education, Pan-Africanism, and youth empowerment. His works, spanning academic research, theatrical performance, film, and literature, reflect an unwavering commitment to bridging African heritage with global perspectives while affirming the transformative power of art, technology, and literacy.
