Jennifer A. Lorden

Jennifer A. Lorden studies the earliest English literature. Her first book, Forms of Devotion in Early English Poetry: The Poetics of Feeling (Cambridge University Press, 2023), explores how deeply felt religious devotion, what is known as affective piety, appears centuries earlier than is commonly thought. Forms of Devotion demonstrates the complex conventions that reveal–but have also obscured–the importance of feeling in early English devotional poetry. She is also the author of Literary Form in Early Medieval England, which appeared from Cambridge University Press in early 2025. She received her PhD from UC Berkeley and currently works as an Associate Professor at William & Mary.
