Rebecca Downing

Rebecca Downing is senior director of communications and parent initiatives at Colgate University, where she has worked since 1996 — for many of those years as the alumni magazine editor. Previously, she was an editor/writer at Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts and the Wentworth Institute of Technology and worked in customer service for the educational publisher Course Technology. She earned her B.A. in creative writing from Hamilton College. Rebecca created Colgate’s communications program for family members beginning in 2019; she enjoys advising them and serving as a liaison with campus departments. Her more than 30 years in higher education have given her deep insights that help her to be a resource for families to support their students today. She also freelances as an editorial consultant for academic and general audience authors.
