Amulya Rao

Amulya Nageswara Rao is a physician, writer, and avid photographer. She grew up in Chennai, India, and graduated from PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Coimbatore, India where she received multiple awards including the Best All-Rounder Medical Graduate Award. She moved to the United States of America and completed her Pediatrics residency training in Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in New York and during her training was adjudged the Best Resident for all three years of training and received Teaching and Research Awards as well. She went on to complete her Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship training at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. She was awarded the Schweisguth Prize for the best scientific article by a trainee in Pediatric Oncology by the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP), the only global multidisciplinary society entirely devoted to pediatric and adolescent cancer. She then completed her Pediatric Neuro-oncology Fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC before returning to Mayo Clinic as an attending and worked there as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Brain Tumor Clinic while establishing a robust Pediatric Neuro-oncology Program. While at Mayo Clinic, having received three Teacher of the Year Awards, she became a distinguished member of the Teacher of the Year Hall of Fame. In 2020, she was recognized with the Distinguished Alumnus Award, the highest honor bestowed by the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research on an alumnus. Her love for reading and story-telling dates back to her early childhood writing her first short story at 11 years of age. This is her first book, born out of her passion for medicine and photography.
