Born in Freeport, IL, and serving as Freeport Township Supervisor from 2013-present, Mr. Sellers brings his readers a wealth of township governmental knowledge and experience. A proud Columbia College of Missouri graduate with a B.A. Degree in General Studies with an emphasis on Business Administration and Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honors Society member.
Mr. Sellers epitomizes dedication to Township government, forming the Stephenson County Township Cooperative to help strengthen the Townships of Northwestern Illinois. He has successfully advised multiple Supervisors, Clerks, and Board Members throughout the state on FOIA requirements, Programming, General Assistance, Budgets and Appropriations, Community Relations, Processes and Procedures, and Crisis Management and Prevention.
In 2013 Mr. Sellers defeated a 36-year incumbent to become Supervisor of the Freeport Township. But Mr. Sellers did not anticipate how big of a mess he had inherited. Freeport Township’s finances were in total disarray; its books were over $300,000 in the red, its operations discombobulated, and client numbers were astronomical. To top it all off, rumors and speculation throughout the City of Freeport called for the Township to be dissolved.
Mr. Sellers took office on May 23, 2013, and began implementing his 5-step reformation plan, which included new programming aimed at client development and self-sufficiency, sensible budgetary cuts, and lowering tax levies. Within one year, the Freeport Township’s finances were back on track, its operations were in order, and long-time clients gained meaningful employment through its various programs. Within two years, the Freeport Township’s books were in the black, and Freeport residents were happy with the organization’s direction under Mr. Sellers’ leadership.
