Joy Fowler

Educator and passionate reader, it was only a matter of time before Joy Fowler would write a children’s book. “I won the school spelling bee in 5th grade and still find myself editing everything I read to this day.” Joy’s first children’s book, Buddy’s Broken Heart was written from a true story. “I had lost my dog, a beloved golden retriever of many years, and couldn’t imagine not having a dog around the house, so I decided to adopt another one from a local shelter. That is where I found Buddy.” Buddy, too, had his own story and it was not a happy one. He had lost his owner, a boy who had passed away. Buddy had completely shut down by the time Joy saw him in the shelter. When a friend who worked with grieving children heard her story, she knew it would make a great tool to help children deal with those emotions. Joy had never thought about writing a book like this before. “After I wrote Buddy’s Broken Heart I knew this was just the first of many more Buddy stories to come.”

A Texas native and Baylor University graduate, Joy is also a world traveler, with visits to Austria and Switzerland as well as several missions trips to Romania under her belt. She still finds time to enjoy the quiet life at home, though, growing a variety of different colored rose bushes in her garden and playing the piano, something she has done since childhood. When she isn’t “cooking up” a new story, Joy is trying out new Mexican and Indian food recipes or illustrating Scripture and making cards for others.
