John Garmon, born May 24, 1940, native Texan, grew up in the town of Groom, on old U.S. Route 66, before it became Interstate 40, graduated from Groom High School in 1958, enlisted in the Marines, served active duty 4 years, attended college (West Texas A&M) for B.A. and M.A., then earned a Ph.D. in American and British literature (minor in linguistics) at Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, wrote poetry, published poems since 1962, many novels and books of poetry published by Amazon.com, poetry in Prairie Schooner, Ploughshares, Commonweal, Southern Humanities Review, Radius, Quartet, Poet Lore, the Lyric, South Dakota Review, Oyster River Pages, etc., edited and published 3 anthologies of poetry, New Century North American Poets, 90 Poets of the Nineties, Amazing Eclectic Anthology, then served as president of Berkeley City College.
