Mio Debnam

Growing up, Mio Debnam thought that she was going to follow in David Attenborough or Jane Goodall's footsteps, and be an intrepid explorer of jungles and a researcher of animals. Instead, she's ended up with an even better job... as a children's book author! Her fiction often reflects her Japanese heritage, and her multicultural upbringing in Hong Kong and London, and explores whimsy and fantasy, as well as deeper issues and questions, such as, 'Do my memories define who I am?" Being a total geek, she also loves researching and writing non-fiction about science, innovations, the environment and of course, animals. In her spare time she can be found concocting exotic (often spicy) foodie treats for her family and friends; enjoying a good book with a side order of dark chocolate and coffee; or working off the calories panting up and down hills with her blind pup, Alfie, dreaming up new stories, or trying to spot local wildlife!
